Presentation of the Environmental Profile of Spain: PAE 2020.
The Environmental Profile of Spain 2020 is a report prepared by the Subdirectorate General of International Relations (National Focal Point of the European Environment Agency in Spain) of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. This annual series, initiated with the Environmental Profile of Spain 2004, aims to bring the environmental situation in Spain to the widest possible audience, with information broken down by autonomous communities and references to the European Union.
The structure and content of this edition are organized into five areas of knowledge, one more than in the previous edition, which includes a specific area on “Health and environmental risk assessment”. These groups together the 15 environmental and sectoral topics into which the environmental information is organized, presented through indicators (109 in total). For most of the indicators, an analysis of their trend is included in two specific time frames: one up to 2019, which includes the evolution of the indicator in the last 10 years and compared to the previous year, and another referring to 2020, a year in which environmental evolution has been greatly conditioned by the effects of COVID-19 and the health measures adopted. The document is accompanied by three appendices that complement the content and use of the publication and an “Executive Summary” that compiles the most notable lines of environmental policy and, sometimes, the initiatives adopted for its development, and the conclusions derived from the included indicators that allow their monitoring.
